All About Aerodynamics at your school

Three In-Person options to choose from

The In-Person version of All About Aerodynamics is offered in three presentation options: After School, All Day, and School Days. Each of the options includes science instruction, team races, and the creation of mini-posters. Ultimately, the differences primarily relate to the amount of time over which the project is extended, and the number of students who can participate.

Total Students: 75

Duration: 3 weeks

The After School option provides an opportunity for the largest number of students to participate in the All About Aerodynamics program.

Students are divided by grade level into three or four groups, each of which will spend approximately one hour per day participating in the program over the course of three weeks:

WEEK 1: After being divided into their teams and given a project overview, students spend the first week learning about the various physics-related principles and concepts.

WEEK 2: Students use the scientific information learned in week-one to select the Hot Wheels car they believe has the best aerodynamic properties and will be fastest in a series of races.

Students populate a spreadsheet with information they gather about their car (name, weight, speed, etc.).

Students compete in a series of races to determine the fastest car.

WEEK 3: Students use all of the information they’ve gathered to create a mini-poster containing information about themselves, their car, and the race results.

On the final day, a culmination event is held in which all of the participating students come together to review what they’ve learned and hold the final series of races to determine the All About Aerodynamics champion! Prizes and certificates will be awarded to the winning student and the student with the fastest car.

Total Students: 35

Duration: 1 day

The All Day option combines the entire All About Aerodynamics curriculum into one full day of activities.

While the program schedule can be adjusted to accommodate each school’s individual schedule, including recess and meal breaks, the general presentation breakdown will be as follows:

SESSION 1: Rules and introduction; Team Assignment; Energy, Kinetic Energy, Potential Energy

SESSION 2: Isaac Newton’s 3 Laws of Motion; Force; Gravity; Elastic Energy/Elastic Force; Aerodynamics; Lift; Quiz

SESSION 3: Car Selection; Car Documentation (pictures, weight, speed, test, etc.); Races

SESSION 4: Poster Design; Science Review; Final Races; Awards Presentation

Total Students: 25

Duration: Varies by school

The School Days option allows students to experience the All About Aerodynamics program over the course of approximately 15 one-hour sessions during the school day.
